THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING THE SPIRIT OF ELVIS
A story of passion, dedication, and love for the greatest entertainer who ever lived
Chapter one
The Day the Music Changed Forever
Mehmood Curmally grew up surrounded by music. His family owned Mumbai’s oldest and most renowned record store Rhythm House a legendary establishment where music lovers from across the world would gather to discover new albums and discuss their favorite artists.
Among the countless records that passed through the store, Elvis Presley’s albums held a special place. But as a child, Mehmood didn’t yet understand why.
That understanding came on a rainy August morning in 1977. His father walked up to him with tears streaming down his face.
“Elvis is gone,” he said, his voice breaking. “I just heard it on the radio.”
In that moment seeing his father’s grief and the collective mourning of music lovers around the world Mehmood realized the magnitude of Elvis Presley’s impact. This wasn’t just a singer. This was an artist who had touched millions of lives, whose music transcended boundaries and generations.
Chapter two
Eight Times in the Theater
The release of the movie Elvis That’s The Way It Is became the turning point in Mehmood’s life. This 1970 documentary captured Elvis at his peak—during the legendary Las Vegas concerts that redefined live entertainment.
Mehmood went to see the film. Then he went again. And again. Eight times in total, he sat in that darkened theater, completely mesmerized. Not just by the music, but by everything—the stage presence, the connection with the audience, the way Elvis could hold thousands of people in the palm of his hand with a single gesture, a single note.
“I wasn’t just watching a concert,” Mehmood recalls. “I was witnessing what true artistry looked like. The charisma, the humility, the raw talent—it all came together in this perfect package. I knew then that if I was going to dedicate my life to music, it had to be his music.”
It wasn’t about impersonation or imitation. It was about understanding the essence of what made Elvis magical and finding a way to honor that legacy
